The new 1-ounce American Buffalo coin is the first pure gold coin ever authorized by Congress, struck by the U.S. Mint, and offered for sale through a network of authorized purchasers and registered bullion dealers. Based on the design created by famed American sculptor James Earle Fraser for the 1913 Buffalo nickel, the $50 American Buffalo gold bullion coin features the profile of a Native American on its obverse. The reverse contains a rendering of a buffalo, a classic symbol of the American west. Each American Buffalo is struck in one Troy ounce of .9999 fine gold and is guaranteed for weight, content, and purity by the United States Government.
