Civil Air PatrolCivil Air Patrol (CAP) Shield w/USAF Emblem
Formed just days before the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was a vital part of America's aerial arsenal throughout World War II. Composed entirely of volunteers with little or no military training, the first pilots of the CAP proved extremely effective in performing coastal patrol missions and engaging in anti-submarine warfare. Today, the Civil Air Patrol is the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and primarily conducts non-combat search and rescue and reconnaissance missions. This shield-shaped coin salutes the enduring service of the Civil Air Patrol as it continues to aid in America's air defense. The obverse bears the Civil Air Patrol emblem while the reverse features the official emblem of the U.S. Air Force. Struck in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze, this coin is accented on both sides with bright enamel.
