World War II Commemorative Formed just days before the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was a vital part of America's aerial arsenal throughout World War 2. Comprised entirely of volunteers with little or no military training, the first pilots of the CAP proved extremely effective in performing coastal patrol missions and engaging in anti-submarine warfare. Today, the Civil Air Patrol is the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and primarily conducts non-combat search and rescue and reconnaissance missions. Minted to commemorate its 60th Anniversary year in 2001, this coin salutes the enduring service of the Civil Air Patrol as it continues to aid in America's air defense. Featured on the reverse is the CAP's official seal.
This proof-quality coin is struck in one Troy ounce of .999 pure silver and selectively plated in 24-karat gold. Each piece comes sealed in a tarnish-resistant Lucite capsule and mounted in a museum-quality leatherette presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
