This coin was made to bring comfort to the worthy men and women of America's military, who must take up arms in the name of peace and place themselves at risk to prevent darkness from enveloping the world, and who ask only goodness and mercy in the rest of the days of their lives.

On the obverse, a soldier patrols a real-world valley of the shadow of death surrounded by the rubble of war; the reverse quotes from the 23rd Psalm. Struck in silver and brushed with an antique finish, this coin's deep-relief design is achieved through the use of special "splash" dies, which allow certain elements to rise from the coin's surface in a very detailed and powerfully tactile way.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
