100 Peso Mexican Silver Coin In 1977, Mexico introduced its first-ever 100 Pesos coin – a giant Silver Dollar-sized coin struck in silver of .720 fineness at the legendary Mexico City Mint. But the silver coin lasted only a few years until 1979, after which it was replaced with a smaller base-metal coin. It was one of the world’s last circulating coins struck in silver. Due to the rising cost of silver, most of these coins were melted long ago for the silver content.
