Perhaps the best-known mountain in the Cascade Range, Mount St. Helens' distinctive dome stands 8, 363 feet high.

After a series of violent eruptions obliterated more than 3,000 feet of elevation from its northern rim on May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens has attracted a growing number of climbers to its base each year.

Hoping to catch a glimpse of the massive horseshoe-shaped crater that now occupies most of the mountain's north face, climbers from all over the world seek out the challenge offered by Mount St. Helens' unique terrain.

This impressive U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Benchmark replica is dedicated to those climbers who have persevered to master Mount Saint Helens' steep slopes. The obverse replicates the design and detail of the official USGS benchmark found at the top of Mount Saint Helens. The reverse contains a space for engraving.
