2003 Ford GT40

The 60s was an era of can-do spirit and fortitude. The United States was in a race to put a man on the moon and in 1963, Henry Ford II wanted to win the 24 hour endurance race at LeMans. When discussions with prospective racing partner Ferrari faltered, Ford turned to Lola of England and the all new GT40 emerged. In 1966, Ford dominated Ferrari and the rest of the LeMans field finishing one-two-three and continued this dominance through 1969.

It is only fitting that the 100 year celebration of Ford Motor Company deliver an all new approach to the dominant racing machine of the century. In the new 2003 Ford GT, all the power, grace, and performance of the original are captured in a refined and technologically advanced vehicle. While the general shape and purpose built look is still clearly part of the new Ford GT, the interior is larger, visibility is improved, and safety as well as comfort features are all a part of this newly integrated road racing concept.

The all American V8 is now a supercharged overhead cam race bred motor that is capable of over 500 horsepower. Coupled with the state of the art six speed transmission, the Ford GT is capable of speeds in excess of 200mph. Just as the original, the drive train is accessible by lifting the entire rear canopy, revealing all aluminum suspension, 19” Good Year tires, and six-piston Alcon cross drilled brakes with vented rotors.

The Ford GT40 set racing history with consistent victories throughout its nearly decade of dominance. Today the 2003 Ford GT celebrates the zenith of today’s technology, combining Fords racing heritage and its passion for engineering excellence.
