1914 Model T
Historians will often credit Henry Ford as having revolutionized the automobile industry through his pioneering use of the assembly line. Yet the magnitude of the Model T lies in its social, economic, and cultural impact on not only America, but the world.
The Model T was not merely a technological marvel of its times, it was affordable, serviceable, and attainable without class distinctions. Its availability and affordability created a middle class for working Americans while forging the commercial growth of fuel and rubber industries, road services, and driving the expansion of rural America into thriving cities.
Over the course of its nearly two decades of sales, the Model T would be built in excess of 15 million units, becoming the longest running model in history apart from the VW Beetle nearly 50 years later. Built for endurance and reliability, the Model T became the standard for all industrial appliances to follow. Like many of the transportation innovations Ford would pioneer, the Model T would go on to revolutionize not only the growing industries but the homes and lives of millions of people all over the world.
