For more than 130 years, the National Rifle Association (NRA) has championed the right of every American to keep and bear arms, serving as America's largest and most formidable Second Amendment advocacy organization.
Founded in 1871, the NRA boasts more than 3.5 million members, who remain faithfully committed to supporting the organization's message of freedom. In addition to its strong advocacy efforts, the NRA is recognized as the preeminent provider of training and education on a full range of issues related to the ownership and use of firearms.
Over the years, as the NRA and its members have confronted challenges to the Second Amendment, they have been inspired by the compelling example of St. Florian of Lorch, the third-century Roman Soldier who suffered persecution and death for courageously refusing to surrender his Christian faith. Revered as the Patron Saint of Firefighters, Saint Florian rejected the Roman practice of setting fire to Christian villages, risking his life instead to spare the villagers from this horrible fate.
This coin salutes the NRA's consistent and vigorous defense of the Second Amendment. The obverse depicts Saint Florian of Lorch, the Patron Saint of Firefighters, battling a blaze alongside a modern-day firefighter. The reverse contains the text of the Second Amendment and includes a quote from Thomas Jefferson that reads: "No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
Minted in one Troy ounce of .999 pure silver, this coin is selectively plated in 24-karat gold. Each piece comes sealed in a tarnish-resistant Lucite capsule and mounted in a museum-quality leatherette presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. |
