The U.S. Special Mint Sets were struck at the U.S. Assay Office at San Francisco. These sets are made from specially prepared and polished planchets (coin blanks) and struck on high tonnage presses with polished dies.

The 1965 U.S. Special Mint Set comes with the original mint paper envelope. The set includes the cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar in the original plastic sleeve. The Kennedy Half Dollar, Roosevelt Dime and Washington Quarter are struck in a new clad metal.
