Despite their enormous size, Buffalo can reach speeds of up to thirty miles per hour at full gallop and are capable of traveling great distances, historically migrating up to 200 miles. Following the near extinction of the species in North America by the turn of the twentieth century, conservation efforts have ensured their survival. An estimated 65,000 Buffalo now make their homes in national parks and private reserves throughout the United States and Canada.
