Seattle - City of Goodwill

In January of 1854, Chief Sealth, speaking as the leader of the native Suquamish Tribe, declared that his people would accept the goodwill of the United States Government and peacefully permit the expansion and development of the territory now known as Seattle.

The historic compromise between Chief Sealth and the leaders of the WashingtonTerritory enabled the city of Seattle to evolve into a bustling center of trade and industry. Today, Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest, with a population of more than 3 million. Despite its remarkable growth over the years, however, the city's character has always reflected the influence of Chief Sealth and the numerous other native tribes who first settled along its shores.

On July 16, 1990, the members of the Seattle City Council passed a resolution to create a new city flag in honor of the Goodwill Games, which were to be held there later that summer. Ringed by the words "Seattle - City of Goodwill," the flag's centerpiece was a stylized rendering of the city's legendary namesake:  Chief Sealth.

This coin honors Seattle's proud past and celebrates the city's rich cultural heritage. The obverse features Seattle's grand cityscape depicted against a backdrop of scenic mountains. The reverse contains an American Bald Eagle, with wings outstretched, standing poised and ready for flight.

Minted in one Troy ounce of .999 pure silver, this coin is selectively plated in 24-karat gold. Each coin comes sealed in a tarnish-resistant Lucite capsule and mounted in a museum-quality leatherette presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
