Coin PackagingCommitted to advancing the cause of freedom in Latin America and the Caribbean, U.S. Army South (USARSO) plays a crucial role in supporting America's global military strategy.

Headquartered at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas, USARSO commands all Army operations within the U.S. Southern Command's twenty-six million square mile area of responsibility, a massive geographic area comprised of more than 30 nations and containing one-sixth of the world's land mass. Vital to the stability of the region, the courageous Soldiers of U.S. Army South have consistently answered the call to protect American interests in Central and South America and the Caribbean.

This coin salutes the outstanding dedication and commitment demonstrated by all members of U.S. Army South as they continue to enhance America's national security.

The obverse features the official Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the U.S. Army South, which contains a white galleon under a main sail marked by a crimson Maltese Cross. The reverse contains USARSO's Distinctive Unit Insignia, which contains a white galleon sailing on a blue sea above the words "Defense and Fraternity."

Minted in a brass alloy and finished in bronze, this coin is imbued with enamel on both sides. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the mission and history of the U.S. Army.
