Coast Guard Damage Controlman (DC) Specializing in construction, maintenance, and emergency repair, Damage Controlmen protect and enhance the performance of the Coast Guard's vital shipboard and shoreside resources. Damage Controlmen assigned to the Coast Guard's buoy tenders, river tenders, and cutters throughout the world are responsible for maintaining all shipboard plumbing devices, ensuring watertight integrity, and testing and securing emergency equipment used for chemical, biological, and nuclear detection and decontamination. Those Damage Controlmen assigned to shore stations are charged with a full range of interior and exterior construction and repair duties, including completing all aspects of facility renovation projects. This coin is dedicated to the highly skilled and trained personnel who serve as Damage Cotrolmen in the U.S. Coast Guard. Featured on the obverse is a detailed rendering of the insignia worn by these individuals. In honor of the Coast Guard's heritage as America's oldest continuous maritime force, the reverse depicts a team of intrepid Coast Guard sailors braving rough surf as they approach a lighthouse and features a space for engraving. Struck in a nickel alloy and gently brushed with an antique finish, this coin is accented with crisp enamel highlights. Each coin comes packaged with a descriptive header card that underscores the unique contributions of Coast Guard Damage Controlmen.
