Established in 1917 as Camp Lewis, Fort Lewis is one of America's largest and most technically modernized military installations.
Situated on 86,000 acres in the shadow of Mount Rainier, the Tacoma, Washington base serves as the hub of U.S. Army activities in the Pacific Northwest. This massive Army post is home to approximately 25,000 soldiers and civilian workers. Fort Lewis additionally supports more than 120,000 retirees and 29,000 family members through a wide range of services, including full-service medical care provided at Madigan Army Hospital. A vital component of U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort Lewis supports more than 20 distinct units and has served as headquarters for the legendary I Corps since 1981.
