This coin was made to bring comfort to the worthy men and women of America's military, who must take up arms in the name of peace and place themselves at risk to prevent darkness from enveloping the world, and who ask only goodness and mercy in the rest of the days of their lives. On the obverse, a soldier patrols a real-world valley of the shadow of death surrounded by the rubble of war; the reverse quotes from the 23rd Psalm. Struck in brass and brushed with an antique bronze finish, this coin's deep-relief design is achieved through the use of special "splash" dies, which allow certain elements to rise from the coin's surface in a very detailed and powerfully tactile way. Each coin comes packaged with a header card that describes the courage and commitment of all those who fight for justice as members of America's military.
The warriors of America's armed forces must advance perilously across exposed fields and through hostile valleys in their fight for justice and freedom around the world. They put their lives on the line to defend God-given rights whenever and wherever they come under attack. And though the hazards are great and the menace is real, the righteous men and women of America's armed forces answer duty's call day after day, reassured by their own personal beliefs as they confront evil in its myriad forms and lethal array of weaponry.
