coin packagingNaval Submarine Base Kings Bay

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay operates the east coast homeport for the venerable Ohio-class nuclear powered ballistic missile (SSBN) and reconfigured guided missile (SSGN) submarines and is the only base on the east coast capable of handling Trident II D-5 missiles. The base serves as a key partner in the fleet's submarine and ship launched Tomahawk Cruise Missile program.

The arrival of USS FLORIDA (SSGN 728) in 2006 was the first of two SSGNs slated for service here.
The service men and women at Kings Bay ensure 18,000-ton submarines, complex nuclear and conventional weapons systems and remain ready to support current and future maritime and fleet tasking. Thousands of Sailors are trained here who provide stellar support to our force. This 16,600-acre base, nestling Georgia's Intracoastal Waterway and pristine Cumberland Island, offers prime location and temperate climate.

Highly awarded, the Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations presented Achievement in Safety Awards to the base for a second consecutive year in 2006, combined with a virtual sweep of the Navy's Community Service Awards (three firsts and an honorable mention in four out of five categories), the Secretary of Defense Community Drug Awareness Award (best program in the Navy) and many other accolades helped to verify Kings Bay's service. In 2007, Kings Bay was awarded the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award for being the best base within the Navy.

This coin salutes all of the fine service men and women who have served, past and present, in Kings Bay. Minted in a Nickel alloy and given an antique finish, this coin is imbued with colorful and durable enamel in the colors of Kings Bay. The coin comes packaged in a polybag with a header card.
