Also known as the Army's Bomb Squad, EOD teams are responsible for identifying, rendering safe, and disposing of hazardous unexploded conventional munitions, chemical munitions, and improvised explosive devices. EOD also supports the United States Secret Service and the State Department as part of protection details for the President of the United States, the Vice President, and dignitaries from foreign countries.

EOD also provides support to civil authorities for incidents involving military unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices, weapons of mass destruction, transportation accidents involving DOD owned or DOD contractor owned munitions, or hazardous explosive items beyond the capability of the requesting civil authorities. Additionally, EOD presents classes on ordnance recognition, bomb search, bomb threat and reporting procedures to military, civilian, and federal authorities. Lastly, EOD is capable of rapidly deploying as part of a Weapon of Mass Destruction Task Force to defeat weapons of mass destruction directed against the United States and its interests.

This coin honors those in the military who serve on the EOD and provide their critically valuable service. This coin is minted in a proprietary brass alloy, given an antique finish, and imbued with durable enamel accents. This coin comes packaged in a polybag with a header card.
