One of the world's most recognizable peaks, Half Dome rises 8,842 feet above the Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park.

Though its sheer, 2,000 foot northwest face was deemed "unclimbable" for many years, it is now a favorite of expert free climbers from around the world. For less experienced climbers and those who simply want to enjoy the grand vistas from its lofty peak, the mountain does contain less challenging routes, including a route that ends with a series of metal cables attached to posts to help guide climbers to the summit.
