USS Georgia (SSGN-729) The USS Georgia (SSBN-729/SSGN-729), an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, was commissioned on February 11, 1984, and redesignated to SSGN on March 1, 2004. In March 2005, Georgia entered Norfolk Naval Shipyard for her scheduled Engineered Refueling Overhaul and SSGN conversion, which was completed in February 2008. After the refit, Georgia moved to her new home port in Kings Bay, Georgia. She has been awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendation for Submarine Operations. This coin honors the USS Georgia, and all those who have served aboard her. Minted in a brass alloy and given an antque finish, the coin is embued with the bold colors of the sumarine's emblem.
