The site of one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War, Gettysburg is commonly looked at as the turning point, as the Union Army ended the Confederate’s attacks on the North. Taking place from July 1-3 1863, over 7,000 died and over 30,000 were wounded. The site is also the location of President Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address.

The medallion’s obverse shows President Lincoln eulogizing the fallen soldiers. The reverse shows a regal-looking Lincoln before a group of men. Minted in deep relief using a special "splash minting" process, this coin is struck in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze.
