2009 Abraham Lincoln Uncirculated Silver Dollar
2009 US MINT ABRAHAM LINCOLN COMMEMORATIVE UNCIRCULATED SILVER DOLLAR
In 2009 the US Mint was proud to honor the bicentennial anniversary of United States President Abraham Lincoln’s birth with the minting of the 2009 US Mint Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Uncirculated Silver Dollar. President Lincoln was born of humble roots in rural Kentucky, yet ascended to the Presidency, where he gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country only days after the end of the Civil War.
This commemorative uncirculated silver dollar memorializes President Lincoln as no other. The immortal words spoken at Gettysburg—the last 43 of his most famous speech—are inscribed on the reverse of this stunning coin:
“…we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this Nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
These words are encircled by a laurel wreath, over the signature of President Lincoln.
The obverse of the 2009 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Uncirculated Silver Dollar features a distinctive image of President Lincoln with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2009. The image is symbolic of Lincoln’s strength and resolve.
This commemorative silver dollar is a moving tribute to one of America’s great leaders, one who demonstrated uncommon courage and humility and commitment to the United States of America.
