USCG Station Fort Lauderdale

US Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale was formally commissioned on August 7, 1975, and since then has served the rapidly expanding greater-Fort Lauderdale metropolis in a variety of critical areas.

The Station’s primary missions are Search, Rescue, and Drug Interdiction, for good reason. Just a few miles to the south of the Station lies the city of Fort Lauderdale, which is a major yachting and tourist vacation center. Forty-two thousand yachts and 100 marinas and boatyards call Fort Lauderdale home. The city’s proximity to the Bahamas and the Caribbean draws a high level of transient traffic which requires constant vigilance on the part of the Coast Guard. Nighttime boardings in search of narcotics and other illegal activity is routine. Just policing normal boat traffic to ensure safety is an enormous task.

The Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale challenge coin is bold and reflects the action of the Station. Enameled in bright colors to reflect Fort Lauderdale’s tropical climate, the front shows the crest of the Station, a speeding Coast Guard cutter slicing through the water. The reverse is the US Coast Guard Crest. This fine challenge coin is minted from a durable brass alloy.
