This silver dollar and half dollar uncirculated commemorative set honors America’s rich heritage and all patriots from all states who gave their property and lives to help forge this Nation in the  War Between the States, commonly known as The Civil War.

The obverse of the silver dollar shows a soldier in the field offering a drink of water to a fallen comrade.  The reverse has the powerful remembrance penned by Gen. Joshua Chamberlain, who commanded a regiment at Gettysburg for which he was later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. His words:

In great deeds something abides…
On great fields something stays…
Forms change and pass:  bodies disappear, but spirits
linger to consecrate ground for the visionplace of souls.

The obverse of the half dollar shows a regiment infantry drummer, who led the field to battle.  The reverse is a silent field cannon, unmanned, on a spent battlefield.

Special commemorative coins struck by the US Mint celebrate some of the most cherished moments and events in American history.  This exceptional coin set is presented in its original US Mint packaging, complete with Certificate of Authenticity.
