In 2001 the US Mint issued Capitol Visitor Center Commemorative Proof Silver Dollar, minted to commemorate Congress first convening in the first Capitol Building in 1800. This beautiful proof silver dollar was minted at the US Mint, Philadelphia.

The obverse depicts the United States Capitol as it was in 1800, with the 2001 Capitol Building elevated and in the background. The two dates, plus Liberty and U.S. Capitol complete the proof face.  The reverse shows a contemporary interpretation of the United States Bald Eagle, wrapped in a banner that says U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Above the eagle is E Pluribus Unum, with United States of America and One Dollar on the circumference.

Members of the original gathering in 1800 could hardly envision the volume of visitors the Capitol Building would be asked to host 200 years later. Able to accommodate 5,000 visitors at a time, the Capitol Visitor Center provides guests comfort, information and assistance when they come to witness democracy in action.

The Capitol Visitor Center Commemorative Proof Silver Dollar is presented in a museum-quality display case. This proof dollar is a stunning ‘heritage reminder’ as a gift to family or friends.
