2011 Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter - P
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL UNCIRCULATED
2011 GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK QUARTER, PHILADELPHIA
The Gettysburg National Military Park quarter is the first of the coins struck in 2011 as sixth overall issued in the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program. All design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Gettysburg National Military Park. The quarters were struck at the United States Mint at Philadelphia, and each bears the “P” mint mark.
On the front of this beautiful coin is the 1932 portrait of George Washington, by John Flanagan, which has been restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model.
The reverse features a depiction of the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument at Cemetery Ridge, which was also the battle line for Union Army during the American Civil War. The Gettysburg National Military Park is home to a number of memorials and monuments that honor one of the war’s bloodiest battles. It was where the Union Army halted the Confederate advance north, and is the site of President Abraham Lincoln’s historic address.
Obverse inscriptions are United States of America, Liberty, In God We Trust and Quarter Dollar. The reverse of this stunning quarter bears the inscriptions of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 2011 and E Pluribus Unum.
