Chickasaw National Recreation Area 5 oz US Mint America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin

Appealing to both silver investors and coin collectors, The Chickasaw National Recreation Area America the Beautiful Silver Bullion coin is the tenth design in the ambitious US Mint America the Beautiful Silver Bullion 5 oz coin program series and the final design to be released in 2011. This 5-oz collectible, investment-grade, .999-silver coin features a view of the park’s Lincoln Bridge, which was dedicated in 1909 to celebrate the centennial of Lincoln’s birth.

One of the 56 coins in the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion 5 oz coin program, its weight, content and purity are guaranteed by the US government. In size, they are unlike anything the US Mint has produced, measuring 3 inches in diameter with a legal-tender face value of 25 cents. (The 25-cent face value is symbolic, because the market price of silver – which is reported in the financial press – has historically been much higher.) Each coin’s fineness and weight is incused on its edge. These coins will be in demand among investors for their .999-fine silver content, and sought among collectors as the mates to the US Mint America the Beautiful Quarters series. This combination makes them superior as both investments and collectibles. The design is the work of Donna Weaver and sculptor Jim Licaretz.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area in south-central Oklahoma preserves partially forested hills, but water is what makes the park -- emerging from the earth, perfect for swimming and drinking, with distinctive freshwater and mineral springs originally thought to have curative powers. It’s named in honor of the Chickasaw Indian Nation, which was relocated to the area during the 1830s. The Chickasaw Tribe sold the original 640 acres of land to the federal government to become the Platt National Park. Today, after a 1970s merger with the Arbuckle Recreation Area, the park is nearly 10,000 acres.

America the Beautiful Quarters are issued in the order the selected national park or site was established, and as the series progresses, demand is expected to increase for the items issued earliest – and the five 2010 US Mint America the Beautiful 5 oz coins were sold out almost instantly.  Because US Mint America the Beautiful 5 oz silver bullion coins are expected to be introduced over a period of 12 years, buying the coins as they are released gives you the best chance to include all of them in your collection at a reasonable price – and purchasing them one at a time enables you to add them to your collection at the pace that works best for you.
