2012 US Mint Silver Proof Set (as is)
US Mint 2012 Silver Proof Coin Set
The 2012 United States Mint Silver Proof Set affords coin collectors the opportunity to own all 2012 US Mint coins struck in beautiful proof quality – with the added advantage of seven of its coins – the five quarters, the half-dollar, and the dime – struck in 90% silver (also known as “coin silver”). These are the only 2012 non-bullion coins from the US Mint that contain silver.
One case contains all five 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters – El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, Acadia National Park in Maine, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii, and Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska – each one minted in 90% silver. The classic 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan is common to all five quarters.
In the second case can be found proof versions of the Sacagawea dollar with its 2012 reverse saluting "Trade Routes in the 17th Century," displaying a Native American and horse in profile. Three horses run in the background, exemplifying the historical spread of the species. Also included is a 2012 proof Lincoln penny with its classic Victor David Brenner bust on the obverse and the “Preservation of the Union” design, introduced in 2009, on the reverse; the 2012 Jefferson nickel, with its unique forward-facing obverse based on an 1800 Rembrandt Peale portrait and a reverse featuring the classic Monticello (Jefferson’s Virginia home), restored in 2006 with greater detail and relief; the 2012 Franklin D. Roosevelt dime in 90% silver, featuring the classic obverse introduced in 1946 and the reverse with a torch signifying Liberty, an olive branch emblematic of Peace, and an oak branch representing Strength and Independence; and a 2012 John F. Kennedy half-dollar, also in 90% silver, bearing the same image of Kennedy introduced in 1964 on its obverse and the reverse featuring a design based on the presidential seal with a heraldic eagle holding a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of 13 arrows, all encircled by 50 stars.
The final case contains the 2012 presidential $1 coins featuring the 21st through the 24th presidents on their obverses – Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland (first term), Benjamin Harrison, and Grover Cleveland (second term). Each coin carries a reverse featuring the Statue of Liberty and is of manganese brass composition.
