2012 Infantry Soldier Proof Silver Dollar Set

This most special version of the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar commemoration by the US Mint is a limited-edition collectible set honoring the soldiers who have owned the last 100 yards of any battlefield in their defense of our liberty. Limited to 50,000, the set includes a proof 2012 Infantry Soldier silver dollar, a replica dog tag on a miniature chain, a stirring quote from President John F. Kennedy, and showcases the Army motto, all in a custom folder.

Recipients of more than half of all Medals of Honor, the US Army’s Infantry shoulders the largest burden of any branch – with more casualties and injuries of any branch as well.

The proof silver dollar in this folder is among the most highly valued of all collectible coins. A painstaking minting process sets proof-struck coins apart from non-proof bullion, including special dies that strike a highly polished coin blank several times, resulting in a highly reflective, mirror-like finish. Coin devotees fervently pursue this choice class of coin because of its limited mintage, exceptional numismatic value and unmatched beauty. This coin is struck from 90% silver.

The Army Infantry’s motto “Follow Me” is represented on the obverse of the 2012 Infantry Soldier Proof Silver Dollar through the image of a contemporary soldier signaling his fellow troops to join him.  The reverse of this coin shows the historic Infantry insignia of two crossed muskets, used since 1875. The ‘W’ indicates this coin was minted at the West Point facility.

“Let every nation know,” said the president, “whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” Infantry has done that, and this is an outstanding way to honor that dedication and build your collection.
