In one of the busiest ports in the world, the intrepid members of the Coast Guard Police of Station New York serve with determination, and this challenge coin captures that devotion to duty. In America’s most active port, these highly-trained cops serve as an important barrier defense, performing 150 search and rescue missions, several hundred vessel boardings, as well as conducting security clearances of large merchant vessels entering the Ports of New York and New Jersey.

Ensuring the safety and security of those who traverse the waterways of the US Coast Guard’s New York sector, this unique police force protects both mariners and the waterways they travel from threats to our homeland security and environmental hazards.

The US Coast Guard Police Department’s unrelenting protection inspired the creation of this coin. The finely-detailed obverse of this challenge coin features a rendition of the Statue of Liberty and the US Coast Guard seal with a patriotic backdrop of red, white, and blue enamel. A corded border encircles the words ‘Liberty’s Maritime Guardians’ and their commitment to uphold their motto of ‘Safety, Security, Mobility, Environment, and Defense’ in the waters they patrol.
