USCG Base Seattle

Press this challenge coin in the palm of a Coast Guard sailor who has spent time at Base Seattle and give a lasting memorial to service at this historic location and all of the connections made there.

Base Seattle was officially acquired by the Coast Guard in 1966, but its origins date back to 1940, when the U.S. government acquired the land and facilities that make up Seattle’s Pier 36. Now, Base Seattle consists of numerous buildings along Piers 36 on the southern edge of Seattle’s expansive waterfront area. It provides support to more than 1,650 active duty and reserve Coast Guard personnel assigned to a variety of vessels and shore commands. While its primary mission centers on Homeland Security operations throughout the Puget Sound, crews from Base Seattle also maintain aids to navigation, marine environmental protection, and other critical Coast Guard duties.

Minted with a solid bronze with antique nickel finish, the obverse features prominent landmarks of the Seattle area accented in bright enamel colors, including Mount Rainier and the Space Needle. The official crossed-anchors emblem of the Coast Guard emblem is displayed on the reverse.
