Lewis & Clark 3 Inch Silver
In 1804 President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Merriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead an expedition on an eight thousand mile journey to explore the headwaters of the Missouri River in search of a Northwest Passage to the Pacific Ocean. The "Corps of Discovery" would catalog the plants and animals of the west and contact the various indigenous people in a two-and-half year odyssey to the Pacific and back. This epic journey ultimately inspired a nation and helped it to realize the vast potential of its rich and diversified resources.
The obverse features Lewis and Clark leading the Corps of Discovery along their arduous journey by water and land to the Pacific Ocean, with a map of their travel. The reverse features Sacagawea in a tribute to her critical contribution in the successful communication with the Indian Tribes during this expedition.
The coin is a proof strike of a full 6 Troy ounces of .999 pure silver and comes enclosed in a lucite capsule and placed in a museum-quality black leatherette presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
