2013 Great Basin National Park 5 Troy oz US Mint America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin

Commemorating Great Basin National Park, the US Mint’s third 5 oz bullion coin of 2013 in the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin series features a park made notable for its exceptional examples of unique geology, biologic diversity and scenic grandeur. 

Every coin minted in the impressive America the Beautiful Silver Bullion 5 oz coin program, has its weight, content and purity guaranteed by the US government. Unique among other coins issued by the US Mint, these pieces are a huge 3 inches in diameter and each carries a legal-tender face value of 25 cents – though the market price of silver has been higher for many decades. These coins have been sought by investors for their .999-fine silver content, and demanded by collectors to complete the US Mint America the Beautiful Quarters series. This combination makes them superior as both investments and collectibles.

One of the main attractions in the park, the Lehman Caves, is most brilliantly decorated limestone solution caverns in the western United States. Great Basin National Park is an oasis in the Nevada desert, with more than 40 miles of perennial streams and 400 springs to quench the parched ground. The park is also known for its beautiful and unique Bristlecone Pine trees, with some groves older than 4,000 years.

The obverse of the coin features the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, and brings out the craftsmanship of the original model. The reverse depicts a lone Bristlecone Pine growing out of the glacier cut rock.
