1994 U.S. Veterans Commemorative Silver Dollars

The United States Mint issued these three commemorative coins to give tribute to distinct groups of American veterans; the Prisoner of War Silver Dollar, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Silver Dollar, and Women in Military Service Silver Dollar. All three coins were minted in 90% silver and contain 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, under authorization by Public Law 103-186.

The Prisoner of War Silver Dollar was designed by Vietnam veteran Thomas M Nielson (obverse) and Edgar Z. Steever (reverse). The obverse features a chained eagle breaking through a ring to show "Freedom," and the reverse displays the design for the National Prisoner of War Museum – opened 1998, in Andersonville, GA.

The second coin, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Silver Dollar, was designed by John Mercanti (obverse) and Thomas D. Rogers Sr. (reverse). The obverse shows an outstretched hand brushing across a loved one’s name on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the reverse features three medals awarded during the Vietnam War; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

The set’s third coin, the Women in Military Service Silver Dollar, was designed by T. James Ferrell (obverse) and Thomas D. Rodgers Sr. (reverse). The obverse carries a series of portraits featuring servicewomen in all five branches of the United States military. The reverse shows the approved design of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, officially opened to the public on October 20, 1997.

These coins make fine additions to any collection and offer a unique way to show support to our men and women in uniform.
