1994 U.S. Capitol Bicentennial Commemorative Proof Coin

This U.S. Capitol Bicentennial coin celebrates the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Capitol Building. The silver dollar, minted in 90% silver and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, has a diameter of 38.1mm and a weight of 26.73 grams. Located on Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the National Mall, the United States Capitol serves as the meeting places for the U.S. Congress.  

The obverse on this gorgeous piece was designed by William Cousins and features the imposing dome of the Capitol building. The reverse was designed by John Mercanti, who based the shield and eagle motif on a stained glass window near the grand staircases of the House and Senate.
