2003 First Flight Centennial Commemorative Clad Uncirculated Half Dollar

Recognized as the pioneers of sustained flight, the Wright Brothers are American heroes and ushered in a new era of aeronautics. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of their historic first flight at Kitty Hawk in North Carolina, Congress authorized the 2003 First Flight Centennial Commemorative Clad Uncirculated Half Dollar.

Minted in copper-nickel, the coin’s obverse, designed by John Mercanti, features the magnificent Wright Monument sitting at the top of Big Kill Devil Hill. The reverse, by Donna Weaver, depicts the Wright 1903 Flyer with Wilbur at the helm, flying through the air for the first time.

Minted in 2003 by the US Mint, this coin is in uncirculated condition and includes the original US Mint packaging with certificate of authenticity. This proof quality coin meets the highest standards in the industry for craftsmanship and was carefully produced to represent the best possible version of the original model. Purchase the 2003 First Flight Centennial Commemorative Clad Uncirculated Half Dollar as a wonderful present for a beginning collector or as a reminder of one of the greatest accomplishments of the twentieth century.
