The Games of the XXVI Olympiad, held in Atlanta Georgia, unofficially known as the Centennial Olympics, and was the sports highlight in 1996. To pay tribute the spirit of the Olympic Games and the American competitors, the US Mint issued the Centennial Olympics – Cycling and Track & Field Proof Silver Dollars. 

The Cycling Proof Silver Dollar, minted in 90% silver and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, has a diameter of 38.1mm and a weight of 26.73 grams. The obverse of the coin, designed by John Mercanti, depicts a group of cyclers racing toward the finish line. The reverse, by William Krawczewics, features clasped hands symbolizing brotherhood and team spirit of the Games.

The Track & Field Proof Silver Dollar has a diameter of 38.1mm and weight of 26.73 grams, and was minted in 90% silver, containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver. The coin’s obverse was designed by John Mercanti and a stadium view of a men’s track and field competition, where the winner is easily coasting to victory. The reverse, by William Krawczewics, displays clasped hands symbolizing the brotherhood and generous spirit all competitors feel during the Olympic Games.
