When people think of the patriots who fought for the United States\' freedom, most are unaware that the first patriot to die was an African American man. The 1998 Black Revolutionary War Patriots Commemorative Proof Silver Dollar was minted to honor black Revolutionary War patriots as well as the 275th anniversary of the birth of the first black Revolutionary War patriot, Crispus Attucks. Crispus Attucks was killed by the British in the Boston Massacre of 1770.
The silver dollar, minted in 90% silver and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, has a diameter of 38.1mm and a weight of 26.73 grams. The obverse, designed by John Mercanti, features a portrait of Crispus Attucks. The reverse, by Ed Dwight – the first African American astronaut, features the Black Patriots Memorial, honoring the patriots and their families.
Minted in 1998 by the US Mint, this coin is in proof condition and includes the original US Mint packaging with certificate of authenticity.
