The National Community Service Proof Silver Dollar was created by the US Mint to commemorate national community service initiatives and Augustus Saint-Gaudens, designer of the 1905 $20 “double eagle” gold piece, widely considered the most beautiful coin ever issued by the U.S. Mint.
The silver dollar, minted in 90% silver and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, has a diameter of 38.1mm and a weight of 26.73 grams. The coin’s obverse was designed by Thomas D. Rogers and features Lady Liberty holding the lamp of truth. The reverse, by William C. Cousins, is a wreath of laurel with “SERVICE FOR AMERICA” displayed prominently within. The design of the coin was based on an original design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
Minted in 1996 by the US Mint, this coin is in like new condition and includes the original US Mint packaging with certificate of authenticity. This proof quality coin meets the highest standards in the industry for craftsmanship and was carefully produced to represent the best possible version of the original model.
