This coin was created by the US Mint to commemorate national community service initiatives and Augustus Saint-Gaudens, designer of the 1905 $20 “double eagle” gold piece, widely considered the most beautiful coin ever issued by the U.S. Mint.

The silver dollar, minted in 90% silver and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, has a diameter of 38.1mm and a weight of 26.73 grams. The coin’s obverse was designed by Thomas D. Rogers and features Lady Liberty holding the lamp of truth. The reverse, by William C. Cousins, is a wreath of laurel with “SERVICE FOR AMERICA” displayed prominently within. The design of the coin was based on an original design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Minted in 1996 by the US Mint, this coin is in like new condition and includes the original US Mint packaging with certificate of authenticity.
