United States European Command Headquarters - Panzer Stuttgart

The United States European Command (EUCOM) bears the monumental weight of protecting American interests throughout 51 countries and 21,000,000 square miles, from Greenland to South Korea. This coin celebrates the proud men and women serving at EUCOM HQ in Stuttgart, Germany and their daily vigilance to protect American citizens.

EUCOM was established on 1 August 1952, to provide \"unified command and authority\" over all United States forces in Europe. During the Cold War and the Kosovo War, EUCOM was the lead command for potential operations. During the Gulf War and Operation Northern Watch, EUCOM controlled the forces flying from Incirlik Air Base.

Following the terrorist attacks against the United States on 11 September 2001, EUCOM provided major forces for subsequent operations in Afghanistan and stepped up its efforts to protect United States interests in Europe and Africa. Ensuing terrorist attacks in the EUCOM theater in Casablanca, Madrid, London and Algiers prompted EUCOM to launch Operation Enduring Freedom Trans-Sahara in 2007 while continuing to provide rotational forces to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Minted from solid bronze, and imbued with bold colored enamel on each side, this medallion is dedicated to those proudly serving at United States European Command Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. The obverse features the insignia of the United States European Command, with the coin itself displaying the four point star design. The reverse displays the coat of arms of the town of Stuttgart, Germany.
