Congress issued the 1992 U.S. Olympic Proof Clad Half Dollar to honor American athletes participating in the XXV Olympiad, and to help finance their extensive training.

It was the end of the cold war and the United States was busy assuming its role as the lone superpower in the world, and the 1992 Summer Olympics was the world stage where the country first peacefully displayed its newfound dominance. This coin commemorates a coming of age for the United States of America.

The "Gymnast Performing in front of American Flag" Clad Proof Half-Dollar is minted in 92% copper and 8% nickel. The obverse, designed by William Cousins, depicts a gymnast defying gravity on her way to a gold medal. The reverse by Steven M. Bieda, displays the Olympic motto: CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS – Faster, Higher, Stronger – with an olive branch crossing the Olympic torch.

Minted in 1992 by the US Mint, this coin includes the original US Mint packaging with certificate of authenticity. Proof quality coins meet the finest standards in the industry for both beauty and craftsmanship. This coin is carefully designed to represent the best possible version of the original model. The 1992 U.S. Olympic Proof Clad Half Dollar represents one of the United States’ greatest moments, and deserves an honored place in your collection.
