Commemorating the 132nd anniversary of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the US Mint coin program introduced the 2013 5-Star Generals Profile Collection. This comprehensive set contains the uncirculated silver dollar and half-dollar from the 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Program along with a bronze replica of the 1962 General MacArthur Congressional Gold Medal.

The silver dollar, minted in 90% silver and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver, has a diameter of 38.1mm and a weight of 26.73 grams. The obverse features the two generals, Marshall and Eisenhower, against the flag and a five star insignia in the background. The reverse, displays the Leavenworth Lamp over the words “U.S. Army Command and General Staff College” which is located in Fort Leavenworth and graduated both generals.

Minted in copper-nickel, the half dollar obverse was designed by Phebe Hemphill and features the two generals, Arnold and Bradley, with a five star general insignia in the background. The reverse, also by Phebe Hemphill, displays the heraldic crest of Fort Leavenworth, home to the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, which taught and graduated both generals.

The bronze medal features a breathtaking likeness of General MacArthur with the inscriptions “DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, LIBERATOR OF THE PHILIPPINES, CONQUEROR OF JAPAN, DEFENDER OF KOREA” and “PROTECTOR OF AUSTRALIA” on the obverse.  The reverse depicts the Great Seal of the United States at the top of the medal and two torches on either side with a quote from General MacArthur, “The inescapable price of liberty is an ability to preserve it from destruction.”

Minted in 2013 by the US Mint, this set includes the original US Mint easel-type packaging that is perfect for desktop display, including informative profile cards for each general with photos, historic military information, plus some interesting and surprising facts, and also comes with certificate of authenticity signed by the Acting Director of the United States Mint.
