One is for the military, one is for civilians. Both penetrate with high velocity…and look almost identical. Now you can grip the .223 Remington/5.56 NATO cartridges in solid silver as a cool award, gift, or fun novelty.

The .223 Remington/5.56 NATO Signature Silver Bullet is loaded with nothing but one Troy ounce of .999-fine silver. It looks just like the real thing, but don’t try to chamber one. These are for cool-factor only.

In the late 1950s, the military was hammering away on developing a smaller, lighter round with less recoil than its current 7.62 NATO. This new cartridge also had to travel at the speed of sound at 500 yards. They looked to the commercial .222 Remington varmint rounds.
After stretching its case body and shrinking its neck the new spirited cartridge was introduced as the 5.56 NATO in 1963. Seeing a commercial market for this load, Remington brought it to the public as the .223 Remington in 1964.

Though the outside casing dimensions of these two cartridges are nearly indistinguishable, their pressure and chamber lengths are dangerously different. The 5.56 NATO boasts a higher pressure and longer chamber in its spec rifles. So, the .223 Remington round can be safely fired from a 5.56 NATO rifle, but don’t try the reverse – a 5.56 NATO in a .223 Remington spec rifle.

We do recommend putting one of these on your desk, in your pocket, on a mantel, or wrapped up as a gift for a firearms enthusiast, a hunter, or military veteran. You can even engrave one – sometimes a bullet with your name on it is a good thing. (Check out the “Engraving” tab above.)
