U.S. Air Force Cyber Command (P)

coin packagingMeant to provide full-spectrum cyber capabilities to include global command and control, electronic warfare and network defense, the Air Force Cyber Command was a proposed major command from 2007-2008 and never officially activated. Based out of Lackland Air Force Base, the proposed Air Force Cyber Command was meant to stand on its own but was placed in the Air Force Space Command as a numbered force.

Lackland AFB is best known for its role as the sole location for U.S. Air Force enlisted Basic Military Training for the Active Duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. Lackland, like many other Air Education and Training Command bases, also trains enlisted airmen out of basic training in a specific specialty via various "tech schools." Lackland has multiple technical training squadrons on base training airmen in various Air Force Specialty Codes.

Minted in solid bronze, and then imbued with bold enamel coloring, this coin is dedicated to the men and women of the short lived but prestigious Air Force Cyber Command. The obverse features the proposed Air Force Cyber Command emblem, depicting a gauntlet crushing an olive branch and lightning bolts among the clouds. The reverse displays the logo of the United States Air Force.
