The USCGC Alert (WMEC-630) plays a vital role in protecting American borders and extending our interests abroad. The last 210-foot medium endurance cutter ever constructed, she is well equipped to bring a swift and decisive measure of force to any scenario. Named after the USRC Alert, a revenue cutter from the 19th century, the crew of the USCGC Alert pursues its modern duties with skill and excellence.

Commissioned on 4 August 1969, also known as Coast Guard Day, the USCGC Alert has a displacement of approximately 759 tons with an approximate length of 210 feet. Due to its multitude of support capabilities, the Alert is ideally suited for a variety of critical missions including search and rescue, law enforcement, homeland security, and even humanitarian operations.

Minted from solid nickel, and finished with an antique patina, this coin pays tribute to the USCGC Alert and salutes the exceptional service of her crew. The obverse contains a rendition of the USCGC Alert, accented by bold enamel highlights, coasting near the Astoria-Megler Bridge on its way to home port at the mouth of the Columbia River. The reverse displays the crest of the USCGC Alert, showing two oars bordering a shield with a saber balancing a set of scales.
