The most decorated ship in U.S. Naval history, earning an unprecedented nine Presidential Unit Citations, the submarine USS Parche (SSN-683) completed nineteen deployments over a stunning thirty-year career. In addition to its many medals, the Parche also holds the U.S. record for submerged endurance, completing an amazing 124 day underwater deployment in 1982. Commissioned in 1974, the Parche was the last of the Navy's thirty-seven Sturgeon-class attack submarines to be retired from service when she lowered her colors for the last time in 2004. This medallion commemorates the remarkable contributions of the USS Parche to the Navy and the nation at large, and honors her place as America's most decorated ship. Minted in a brass alloy, this coin's rim is imbued with a rich enamel finish. The obverse features a rendering of the USS Parche and includes her dates of service. The reverse bears the Parche emblem. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the USS Parche's outstanding record of service. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this coin will benefit the U.S. Submarine Veterans Charitable Foundation. ™ Department of the Navy. Officially Licensed by the Department of the Navy.
