Legendary chief and spiritual leader of the Lakota nation during the second-half of the nineteenth century, Sitting Bull was revered for his boundless courage and penetrating insight.

Over the course of two decades, he worked to unite the Lakota tribes of the northern plains in armed rebellion against the American military, refusing to surrender his people's way of life.

Never afraid to fight to secure the freedom of his people, Sitting Bull is most well-known for orchestrating the Lakota victory against General George Armstrong Custer's Seventh U.S. Cavalry in 1876 at the Battle of Little Big Horn.

This coin commemorates Sitting Bull's brave leadership of the Lakota nation and celebrates his passionate defense of the rights of his people. The obverse features a rendering of Sitting Bull wearing the full headdress of the Lakota warrior chief.

The reverse depicts a buffalo standing inside a dream catcher, a Native American cultural icon still in use today.

According to Native American legend, dream catchers - which are made by stretching a web of sinew strands across a small wooden hoops are designed to capture only those spirits that give life to the tribe, leaving all others to pass through its small holes.

Minted in .999 pure silver and plated in 24-karat gold, this proof-quality coin is sealed in a tarnish-resistant Lucite capsule. Each coin comes displayed an attractive leatherette presentation box and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
