Formed in 1992, the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) is responsible for equipping the U.S. Air Force with the aerospace technology it needs to defend American interests at home and abroad. Comprised of approximately 90,000 military and civilian personnel, the AFMC is the second largest command in the United States Air Force. Operating from its headquarters at Ohio's Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the AFMC directs the development, procurement, and maintenance of every major weapons, communications, and intelligence gathering system used by the Air Force. Additionally, the Air Force Materiel Command provides critical logistics support for all Air Force missiles, vehicles, and onboard avionics and electronic warfare systems. Developing the most advanced equipment for the world's most powerful aviation force, the AFMC continues to strengthen America's defense. This coin salutes the proud members of the Air Force Materiel Command for their commitment to empowering America's Air Force. The obverse bears the official insignia of the Air Force Materiel Command. The reverse contains the official emblem of the U.S. Air Force. Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is imbued with brightly colored enamel on both sides. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the mission and history of the Air Force Materiel Command.
