Originally the Eighth Air Force, U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) was founded in 1945 at the end of World War II.

Headquartered at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, the USAFE is the air component of the U.S. European Command, directing air operations for American and NATO led military campaigns throughout Europe and Africa. Comprised of approximately 73,000 military and civilian personnel, USAFE is one of only two Air Force Commands located outside of the continental United States. Uniquely positioned to protect America's interests abroad, USAFE has been an integral part of America's global military strategy for more than fifty years, evolving to become one of the nation's most flexible and efficient aviation forces.

This coin is dedicated to the members of U.S. Air Forces in Europe, who remain committed to defending freedom in Europe and throughout the world. The obverse features the official emblem of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe. Enameled in blue on the coin's reverse is the symbol of the U.S. Air Force.

Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is imbued on both sides with brightly colored enamel. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the vital mission of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe.
